Laurie Schmidt
Lifelong artist and resident of Melrose. I first became acutely aware of artist materials when I stumbled upon a small collection of water color paints that belonged to my very creative father, in the attic of our first family house. When I was a bit older, I went to art schools of note here in New England: MassArt and RISD. I then went on to make art and teach students (in grades 7-12) about a wide range of art processes and techniques. Since retiring from teaching art, I have been a self employed fine artist and artisan. My favorite materials these past few years include wool, copper, enamel, paper, ink, oil, and water color. I have shown and exhibited my work at venues and galleries in New England, including here in Melrose. My inspirations include: whimsical writing, pre 20th century architecture, art history, art elements in nature, and my dog.
